How Do They Do It?

Smart customers shop around and as a business it is part of our job to check on what our competition are doing.

One of the things that constantly surprises us is other security companies who offer cheap deals to secure your business.

You know how it goes – a fantastic alarm system for only a couple of hundreds of dollars.  How do they do it so cheap?

Two Reasons:

1.          They are selling you a very basic system.  Most of their deals offer only two detectors, usually PIR’s.  PIR’s are only suitable in some situations and are not effective if you have pets in the house, for example.  In all our 30 plus years in the business we have never EVER seen a home or business adequately protected using only two detectors.  They are trying to get their foot in your door and they will start up-selling immediately.  Their reputation is on the line and they know if they under-protect you they are in strife.

2.          You have to sign a monitoring contract for at least 3 years.  So even if you don’t want the system any more for whatever reason (moving house, for example) you’re stuck with them.  It’s the same as a phone plan.  If I have a contract with Telstra and I decide to instead go with Optus for whatever reason, I still have to pay out my contract with Telstra.

Alarms or Cameras – Which is Best?

We’re often asked which type of electronic security is the most effective.  It’s a good question but unfortunately there is no simple answer.  The best way for you to look at it is:

Security alarms are effective because of the noise component.  Alarm sirens can reach up to 120db which is perfect for scaring off would-be intruders.  Complement this with a flashing strobe light and most burglars are going to try elsewhere.

Most intruders don’t want any trouble – they want to be in and out, quick and fast.  Even if an alarm activates, the amount of damage caused to a property is usually pretty limited because thieves don’t want to bring attention to themselves.

As an added back-up, security alarms can be self-monitored (so when your alarm activates it will ring through to your phone) or it can be monitored by an independent monitoring station.

Cameras on the other hand are perfect for identifying intruders (or whoever is causing you grief).

Technology means you can now log in to your premises when you’re not there by use of Internet Protocol systems, using a smart phone or anywhere you have an internet connection.  As technology advances there are now products on the market which activate an alarm, record footage and send that footage through to you.

Camera verification can assist the police in identifying trouble-makers and footage is often used in court to successfully prosecute offenders.

CCTV systems are becoming more affordable than ever and there are a wide range of systems to suit your needs.

Why You Need Electronic Security

Ace Alarms - home invasion Crime rates are on the increase – there’s no doubt about that.  But many people question if they really need a security system.  Nothing beats vigilance around your home and business, but by having a security alarm or camera system, it gives you the upper hand in the fight against crime. Being broken into isn’t just a matter of your privacy being violated.  It also means you have to take time out to replace stolen or broken items, the clean-up bills can run into thousands, and some insurance companies will increase your premiums when there is a claim made.

Here are some of the reasons we have installed electronic security systems within the last year:

  •  An elderly couple had their car keys stolen from their home while they were sleeping.  The thieves took the car and left behind a baseball bat – we upgraded their system to include night-arming, which means they can set the alarm at night with a perimeter around their home.
  •  A couple have had two break-ins at their home within a month – we installed a monitored security system.
  •  A business has had staff stealing goods from the storeroom – we installed a camera system.
  •  A fuel station was having “drive-offs” – we installed a specialised CCTV system and also hold-up switches for the staff.
  •  A golf club had their buggy shed set alight – we installed a camera system and a monitored alarm system.
  •  A Unit Complex had poor access control – we upgraded their system and also put in place a camera system around the pool area and the car-park where there had been incidences of graffiti and vandalism.
  •  A female customer who had a Domestic Violence Order against her ex-partner now has the added security of a camera system she is able to access 24 hours a day.
  •  A customer was being harassed by local youths – we installed a monitored security system.

In each case when the security system (alarms and/or cameras) was installed there has been a dramatic decrease in criminal activity.

Unfortunately crime will never stop, and in some suburbs the increase of crime against property is escalating.  Police are understaffed and simply do not have the time or resources to search the streets looking for perpetrators.  It is up to you to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your property.
